​There is a lot of confusion and misperceptions about what coaching is. Most assume that training is coaching, and mentoring is coaching. All three have advantages, and two are critical to anyone's success: training and coaching.

​Common Misconceptions about Coaching 

I’m new or need to be a top producer first before I hire a coach.

• Having a Coach is not a luxury, it is necessary, and a must-have to reach your desired goal. Accountability is one of the greatest strengths of working with a Coach. It’s challenging to get an objective answer from yourself about your business, but your Coach will always tell you the truth, even if you don’t want to hear it or take action on it. It is what differentiates a producing agent from the failures. You can start your business strong at the beginning instead of spending years potentially unsuccessfully trying to figure out what will grow your business and get you to your goals.

My brokerage has mentoring and training.  

• While most brokerage firms offer training and mentoring, the industry continues to have a high percentage of failure. Managers, Owners and Brokers rarely have time to provide quality mentoring or training; they are running the entire operations and most likely their own real estate business too. If a mentor is provided, you can be teamed with an agent who does not know how to transfer their knowledge, maybe unwilling to offer the full skill set for fear of competition, or may not be in alignment of your business values.  Mentors also can take credit for the work, a portion of your earnings on top of your brokerage split and may not have your best interest at heart. Working with a coach keeps more income in your pocket, as well as creating more opportunities and revenue.
