Regarding whether it is “mandatory” for an appraiser to take a

4 hour CE class Federal and State Laws and Regulations

as part of the 56 hours of CE needed every four years:

It is not mandatory. No appraiser actually has to take the class.

Several years ago the OREA removed Federal and State Laws and Regulations

as mandatory from the CE curriculum. Instead of taking the class the OREA has included

a place on the Continuing Education Attachment Form 3017 where the appraiser

is asked to check a box that they have read Federal and State Laws and Regulations.

Read the third line under number 4 which states:

By checking this box and signing this form below, I certify that

I have read and understand all applicable Federal and State Laws and Regulations.

As a result, 99.9% of appraisers simply check the box.

Therefore, it is not currently economically feasible for RET to

offer the Federal and State Laws and Regulations class.
